SUMMARY
This Chapel Hill residence was designed for three boys from different familys to be cared for by a live-in carer and family. Each aspect of the home was designed meticulously to suit the individual needs of the occupants taking into account their various disabilities and interests. From this project, I learnt how essential it is to treat each client as a unique opportunity to bring comfort, ease and joy to their lives through empathy and compassion. Listening to the clients needs more deeply and researching products that are designed to alleviate stress, discomfort and danger from every day life was a key learning point. For example, the specification of non-slip rated surfaces, flush drainage chanels and colour contrast for enhanced visibility as well as adaptability and accessability are typical design considerations that need to be implemented in SDA homes.
