Element on Hope Street

SUMMARY

This was a high pressure competition to produce a residential tower. I found this experience very exciting, being involved in collaborative brainstorming sessions as well as modelling design elements such as the facade treatments, material expression, podium levels and the recreational rooftop. Inspired by naturally occuring minerals and the experimentation of various elements in architectural application, we expressed a striking contemporary apprearance that skillfuly married various elements together with an innovative use of building materials and techniques. A combination of bronze, copper, zinc, aluminium, nickel and iron is celebrated whilst gold and titanium are referenced against timber and natural stone surfaces creating a balance of warmth and texture, durability and functionality. The design language and material palette that envelopes the facade is intended to reference the crystalline forms within a natural environment filtering and reflecting light hinting on a sense of play between angles and shadows.
