SUMMARY

Being involved in the design stage of this residence allowed me to develop a strong professional relationship with the clients. Learning about their situation and understanding their needs required background research on the disability involved, having access to sensitive case reports and being responsible for communicating with and updating the family appropriately. Designing for the clients unique needs was such a rewarding and eye-opening experience allowing me to see how challenges and practical solutions need to be approached on a case-by-case basis.

Listening to the clients experiences and day to day struggles to truly understand what works for them was more important than ever and resulted in an end product that was the perfect fit for them. I am so proud to have been involved in a life changing journey for this family and believe that this architectural response to their needs will support them for the rest of their lives. Working within the SDA parameters provided me with a new insight into human-centric design and useability whilst strengthening my architectural purpose.
